Leonard J Russell Snr, our company’s founder, was a firm believer in the value of independence. Beholden to no single distiller, he bought only those whiskies which met his own and his customers’ exacting standards.
Both clearly had good taste, because more than 80 years down the line, Ian Macleod Distillers has built up an enviable portfolio of premium quality spirits and is proud brand proprietor of Glengoyne, Tamdhu, Isle of Skye, Smokehead Scotch whiskies and Edinburgh Gin to name but a few. The world’s 10th largest Scotch Whisky Company, we currently produce and sell over 15 million bottles of spirits every year.
A major supplier to the Buyer’s Own Brand market, with a reputation for innovative thinking, Ian Macleod Distillers has also supplied own-label spirits to some of Europe’s largest supermarket groups for over 40 years.
With continued investment in our bottling plant, Broxburn Bottlers, in warehousing and most importantly of all, our unrivalled stocks of Scotch whisky, Ian Macleod Distillers is in a stronger position than ever to meet the increasing demand for its products from around the world.
Perfected over the generations, since 1833.
Glengoyne’s stills are Scotland’s slowest, the gentlest of journeys creating a unique flavour.
No peat is used in the barley drying process, allowing the subtle, complex flavours of slowdistillation and exquisite wood to shine through.
Glengoyne’s natural colour comes from time and wood alone.
Matured in hand-selected sherry casks, stacked just three high in the cool darkness of its stone-built warehouses.
Based in Scotland’s capital city, we are ever-inspired by its gin-making heritage, and of its position as a global light; a home to scientists, artists, philosophers and inventors.
Edinburgh Gin is an artful distillation, capturing the spirit of these luminaries while respecting and paying tribute to our unique sense of place; inspiring us to create a world-class portfolio of gins and liqueurs.
As a small-batch distiller, we produce a dynamic range of gins for every occasion, and we’re dedicated to guiding peoples’ discovery of the modern-day gin experience. Every bottle of Edinburgh Gin is produced at our West End, and Leith Distilleries.
An Islay Single Malt Whisky that’s an assault on your senses, Smokehead is for those who smoke tradition and dodge the drab. It’s an award winning whisky that’s as bold in taste as it is in attitude.
So, if you refuse to conform to the rules of normal whisky drinking, and are seeking out something more uncommon, then here’s where that pig-headed inquisitiveness of yours gets rewarded.
And if Smokehead is an assault on your senses, then Smokehead High Voltage is an all-out attack. Louder, bolder and more intense. Smokehead Sherry Bomb? A whisky that’s more explosive than an armada cannonball, boldly blasted by sweet and spicy Oloroso sherry casks.
And completing the line-up, there’s a global travel retail exclusive – Smokehead Extra Rare.
Premium quality 8 Years Old Blend – the recognised age of maturity for many malt whiskies. Few blends offer any age statement. 8 years old defines the age of the youngest whisky in the blend, the majority of the malts in Isle of Skye are much older.
Origins in that most widely celebrated of Scottish Islands: Skye, home of the Clan Macleod.
An exceptionally smooth and mellow Blended Scotch whisky containing a high proportion of carefully selected Island and Speyside Malts.
Honey/vanilla sweet Speyside flavour allied to smoky/peaty Island influences to give a well balanced distinctive blend.
In 1898 our founders secured their first precious shipment of sherry casks from the finest bodegas in Spain.
Now over 100 years later, Tamdhu matures its whisky exclusively in the finest Oloroso sherry casks. Nothing less.
It’s one of the hardest and most expensive ways to mature whisky, not to mention it limits the amount of precious spirit we can produce. So why do we do it that way? We do it this way because we believe it’s the only way to create the very best single malt whisky.
No substitutes, no Shortcuts. Only the best.
King Robert II Blended Scotch Whisky belongs to our best-selling range of spirits, with sales in excess of 500,000 cases per year.
Sold in over 40 markets worldwide (and brand leader in five), the King Robert II range of spirits has consistently grown by over 20% per annum in recent years thanks to a combination of competitive pricing and quality.
King Robert II Scotch Whisky is a consistent and complex blend of first class grain and malt whiskies, all of which have been given the time to mature.
Comprising malts that are typically older than those used in competitors’ standard brands, King Robert Scotch tends to be much smoother and more mellow.
In recognition of this, King Robert II won Gold in the 2007 IWSC category of Best Blended Scotch Whisky – No Age Stated, seeing off stiff competition from other well-known brands including Johnnie Walker Red Label, Famous Grouse Finest Scotch Whisky and J&B Rare.
